Speak Up

Delegate Responsibility

Delegate more responsibility, whether it’s given to the kids at home, or to an office assistant at work. Some of us strive to be perfect...guilty as charged...and it is hard for us to let other people take care of things that we think only we can take care of. You must learn to break this cycle of thinking. It is only hurting you. You will never be stress free if you can not learn to let go of some things.

Start small, but eventually you should be able to concentrate on the things that get results instead of tedious tasks that take up more time than anything else. I ask you, ‘What job is worth destroying your health over?’

Learn Effective Communication With Yourself

Examine the language that you use to communicate with yourself. Are you constantly telling yourself that you are stupid or not good enough. You are a valuable asset and somebody loves you very much, whether it be family, friends or coworkers. Learn to talk to yourself in a positive way.

Avoid the word 'can't'. If you don't want to do something, then just say that. If it is something that you really want, then figure out a way around it. Ask yourself 'How can I make this happen?' or 'How can I deal with this situation the best possible way?'. Whatever you do, you must eliminate self-defeating thoughts and negativity. They only serve to limit your potential. Try and see the better side of an inopportune situation.

Life is what you make of it, even when everything seems to be going against you, there is good around if you look for it!

Learn Effective Communication With Others

Communication with you spouse or partner can be especially stressful when one or the other does not display respect when talking to or addressing the other person. This can have tremendous consequences on your health. I have researched a few of the most effective ways for two people to handle conflict.

Avoid bringing up past hurts or changing the subject.

Focus on understanding each other and finding a solution.

Listen to the other person as he/she is talking.

Listen for valid points and take responsibility for what is yours.

Listen without becoming defensive and do not interrupt. When it is your time to talk, you deserve the same respect. Rephrase what has been said to show that you understand. Put yourself in their shoes and see what it’s like for the other person to go down the road. Try and see their perspective. If you can understand their side, it will help you to pitch your side of the story. Most people just want to be understood and want to feel heard.

Avoid accusatory language such as ‘why did you...’, or ‘how could you...’. Instead, start phrases with something like ‘I feel that...’

Don’t be afraid of taking a time out, but make sure you come back to the conflict and get it resolved. Never let an issue hang. That’s just asking for more stress and the point is to get rid of the stress we have.

Finally, get counseling if either you can’t resolve the situation or if one of you is not able to respect the other.

5 Important Questions To Ask Yourself

These are five questions that you can ask yourself in the morning before you start the day off. These aren’t meant to give you immediate relief, only a different insight into what is going on in your life. Once you see the answers, it might change your outlook and work to restore your focus on what is important for you.

  1. What am I happy about in my life right now?

  2. What am I excited about in my life right now?

  3. What am I proud about my life right now?

  4. What am I enjoying most about my life?

  5. What am I committed to in my life right now?

Get into the habit of answering these questions and you should gain some insight as to where your life is headed. Also ask yourself what you are thankful for?
